Medical Assistant
Duties and Responsibilities: Perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to insure that the offices of physicians and other health practitioners run smoothly. Their duties vary from office to office. Their duties depend on the size and location of the practice and practitioners specialty. Some administrative duties include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients’ medical records, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission. They also help with laboratory services and handling bookkeeping and billing. Some clinical duties they also do is taking medical history, recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to the patient and/or family, prepare patients’ for examination, and assisting the physician during examination. Medical assistants also collect and prepare laboratory specimens and/or perform basic laboratory tests on the premises.
Salary: Their average salary is $33,330 a year.
Education: They need a postsecondary nondegree award, high school diploma, training in clinical work or assistant work. They must also have a certificate.
Demand for this Profession: The demand is projected to grow 24% in the years of 2014-2024.

I would like to be a medical assistant because I have always been interested in helping out doctors and helping patients understand what they are going to be put through. I also want to be a medical assistant because it requires people skills and I like talking to new people and making them feel welcome and safe. This is why I would like to be a medical assistant.
