Optometrist

Duties and Responsibilities: An Optometrist is a person who examine a patient's eyes and other parts of the visual system. They diagnose and treat visual problems, and they manage diseases, injuries and other disorders of the eyes. They may also prescribe contact lenses and glasses if required. They also need to perform visual test and analyze the results.
They also
  • Diagnose problems such as nearsightedness or farsightedness, and eye diseases such as glaucoma. 
  • Prescribe glass or contact lenses if needed.
  • They may perform minor surgical procedures to correct, treat visual or eye health
  • Provide treatment and therapy
  • Also provide low-vision rehabilitation
  • Promote eye and general health by counseling patients
These are only a few things optometrist do.
 Salary: The median pay is $103,900, the lowest 10% of optometrist get payed less than $51, 780, and the highest 10% earn more than $187,200.

Education: In order to become an optometrist you need an O.D Degree, Postsecondary Education, License(depending on state), 1 year residency, they must also have decision-making skills, detail oriented skills, interpersonal skills, and speaking skills.

Demand for this Profession: There is a projected outcome of a 27% growth through the years of 2014-2014.

             I would like to be an optometrist because the study of the eyes has always fascinated me. I would also want to be an optometrist because I like meeting new people and helping them and with this job I can do both.
