Veterans Day is the day when we honor the brave men and women who were in the army and were risking their life for our freedom. Veterans Day was held after World War 1. It is celebrated every year on November 11th.The main purpose of Veterans Day was to honor the end of World War 1 and the people who served in it. World War 1 ended on November 11th, 1918. It is important to keep honoring our Veterans because we are showing them thanks for all the sacrifices they made while serving our country. 

Here are a few ways of honoring the veterans who served our country:

  One way is to say thank-you to any veteran you see.
• Place flowers or flags on graves of veterans who passed away.
• Proudly display your american flag.
• Chat with some elderly veterans at a local retirement home
• Teach your children about Veterans day
• If you are on a flight and you see a Veteran offer them your window or aisle seat
• Volunteer at a VA hospital.
• Help homeless veterans through VA services.
• You can donate a stuffed animal to Operation Gratitude and they will create a Battalion Buddy for children of veterans or current soldiers

Veterans day is important to me not only because I honor those who served in the country but i also honor one of my family members who is thankfully still here today. My uncle was part of the military and he went to battle to protect our freedom. From many of the stories I heard he was very frightened of losing his life along with others who were with him. One message I would want to say is thank you too all our veterans and Thank-you to my uncle.

My reflection on Veterans day is that it is an amazing way to honor our people who have passed on serving this country. I also think that veterans day is one of America's biggest festivities to honor those who fought for us. Thanks to our soldiers and veterans our land became home of the free because of the brave. I know they must have been frightened to go to war but they made sacrifices for the sake of their country. Veterans day should continue on as one of the many festivities for America. Most of all we should keep honoring our soldiers and veterans for their hard work. Because of them America is free. For this I say Thank-you for your service.

I believe that Mr. W. Clement Stone is trying to say that you should not be afraid of doing these things because you might stand alone. Sometimes people do not say no or have courage to face the truth because no one else is standing with them. If you are part of a group it doesn’t take skill to be there but it takes courage and strength to stand alone and do the right thing. You have to do the right thing because it is right no matter what everyone else tell you. At this age some of you may start thinking in the mind of a rebel. Well maybe it’s time for you to drop the act. The main reason you start acting like a rebel is because you are influenced by people who are making the wrong choices and causing mayhem and chaos in not only their lives but others as well. Imagine your friend comes up to you and tells you to smoke a cigarette with them because it would make you look cool. What would you say/ do? Would you be scared? Don’t second think the situation. Have the courage to tell your friend no because it is wrong. Have the courage to find the facet of your friend that has been hidden from you. But most importantly have the courage to do the right thing because it is right. If you decided to smoke than have the courage to face the consequences of your actions. Everything is affected by what you do. “It’s easy to stand with a crowd, but it takes courage to stand alone.”

Student Success Statement 11/03/16

       I believe that the proverbs are trying to say that if you hang out with the wrong group of people then they start to influence with their bad motives. When you hang out with a group that suits you, that will help you study and maintain on task, they will help you achieve success in life. The people you hang around always affects the way you learn, the way you act, the way you dress, basically they affect everything in your life. They can also affect your behavior. If you were a great student in school and then you started hanging out with the kids who never did their homework, who always ditched school, who smoke weed/pot etc. then that changes the way your teachers, peers and parents look at you. When you hang out with people who help you study and help you maintain your grade point average it shows that you know who you are around and that you know they will help you achieve greatness in your academic life. When you see a new student walk into class and they are all alone you might want to talk to them. Talking to them is good but if after talking to them you find out why they are alone that helps you realize if you should stay and talk to this person or if you should leave because this person is a bad influence. Even you can influence others. I have 2 younger siblings who look up to me. One is my baby sister who is 2 years old and the other is my little brother who is 8 years and is currently in third grade. Most of the time my brother and I spend time arguing but in the end I end up helping him and he helps me with things as well. My sister gets influence by what we do. "Monkey see, Monkey do" is what my mom says when my sister is around. She means that if I show her what is right then she will do the right things, if not then she'll go down the wrong path. Not only can others influence you but you can influence others so watch your actions because everything counts. 

Student Success Statement 11/01/16

I think that William Penn is trying to say that to make yourself better you have to cleanse your soul by recreating who you are. If you have made a bad decision such as drugs, smoking or drinking then you are giving yourself a bad image. In order to clean up the mess you made with that image you have to do something good such as cleaning the park, helping your elderly and/or rallies to prevent harmful causes to your environment. If you have done good and you think there's no need to cleanse your inner self you got it all wrong. Even though you have done good things it still helps to keep helping others. If this is you then you can still go and help clean up beaches and parks, you can still help take care of children or you can still help recreate what has been lost if any damage has been done to the place/city you call home. Recreation is the key to help you feel good about yourself and do good!!

Student Success Statement 10/28/16

"Right is right, even if everyone is against it; and wrong is wrong, even if everyone if for it."

   What I believe Mr. William Penn is saying is that even though you might be the only person doing the right you are still right although you are alone. If everyone is against a decision you make because you believe it is the right choice and they began to do something that could get them in trouble then you made the right decision. Imagine if you were at a party and everyone started drinking even though they were supposed to drive and you decided not to follow them. They start going against you. What do you do? NOTHING!! Why? Because you made the choice to stay away from drinking and driving thus getting yourself out of danger. If people around you start smoking in school and you say know and tell them that it's wrong. They will most likely start laughing. Even though they made the wrong decision they are still for it and by doing this they are decreasing their chances of a longer life and an education. Don't let others influence you with their different point of views. Everyone was raised differently and you must show them how you were raised. Wise and respectful. Remember you what is right even though others are against it and what is wrong even though others are for it.

Student Success Statement 10/24/16

"A good name is better than anything you can achieve in life."

  What Mr. Krzyzewski is saying that having a good reputation is better than anything else you can achieve in life. If you do something horrible like you smoke then when people hear your name they can refer to you as a smoker . If you have good grades and you decide to stay away from any tobacco products people will think good of you when they hear your name. Your name is a key that holds your identity. If you decide to make your identity fall apart then so does your name. When you make the correct decision that decision is heard when people speak of you or when they say your name. You earn a good name by doing great things. Don't go the wrong direction and make the wrong choices. Your name reflects off of who you are choosing to be. Don't go around and say you are perfect because the truth is always let out by your name. Your name gets to places before you do. So remember your name is a key that holds who you are. Only you can unlock it by showing the right or wrong side of yourself.
